Other mental health professionals are Psychiatrist, Psychologist, social workers (or clinical social workers). Also, family doctors and nurses can be involved in providing mental health care.
Psychiatrist is an MD or physician who is specialized in mental health; therefore, psychiatrists provide diagnosis, and prescribe medications and also offer psychotherapy.
Psychologists are professionals who have finished their PhD. Or doctorate degree in psychology (mostly clinical or counselling psychology) and they can provide diagnosis and psychotherapy treatments.
Psychotherapists are professionals who are trained in counselling psychology or other mental health fields whether in Masters or PhD level. They can provide psychotherapy and counselling services to treat various range of mental health issues or disorders.
Social workers are trained in social work and they can provide counselling and psychotherapy services. There are other mental health professionals such as case managers, occupational therapists and mental health nurses.
You can self-referral yourself to talk to me or any other mental health professionals. However, you need your family doctor’s referral to talk to a psychiatrist. Also, maybe some other health care professionals advised you for counseling or psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP. However, some insurance plans cover different mental health professionals such as psychologists, psychotherapists, or social workers.
To find out if you are covered to talk to me, please check with your insurance provider to see if you have coverage for Registered PSYCHOTHERAPIST. Some insurance plans might cover all the professionals, some plans only cover one or some of them. To make sure please check with your plan provider. In addition, Psychiatrists are covered by OHIP.
